Do I have to walk 5km?
No, you can walk as much or as little of the family fundraiser walk as you like. We are sharing this as a 5km walk but the idea is for everyone to enjoy walking together, and joining together afterwards in a community feel event. Should you wish to only walk part of the route this is still welcomed, and you can make your way to the Visit from the Stork gazebo at any time.
Is there a shorter ‘Walk for Stork’ route?
Yes, the full route comprises a short lap and a longer lap. The first short lap ends at the starting point, at which point you can easily end your walk. From here if you are ready to end your walk you can make your way to the Visit from the Stork gazebo to collect the goody bag, and spend some time with us and have your picnic should you wish to bring one.
I can no longer make the event, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately we operate a no refunds policy. However, we can happily transfer your ticket to a friend for you to gift to them.
Does everyone get a goody bag?
There will be 1 goody bag available for each family i.e. main ticket holder (£10)
Are there toilets available?
There are public toilets available throughout Heaton Park and there is signage in the park.
Are dogs allowed on the walk?
Yes, dogs are permitted, we just ask you to keep any dogs on a short lead to avoid any congestion or trip hazards to other walkers, and request that dogs are not able to jump up to other walkers or rummage through pram baskets or picnics.
What do I need to bring for the picnic?
All participants are invited to join us at the gazebo after the walk, to enjoy a get-together and celebrate your achievement! Please bring whatever your family would like to eat/drink at the picnic. We do request you only share food with people you know, and that you have checked allergy restrictions. The picnic is not provided for participants, and it is not compulsory to join us at this time.
How to get to Heaton Park: Metrolink
Metrolink offers Park and Ride car parks which are free to use for Metrolink customers. For metrolink times visit www.metrolink.co.uk. The “Heaton Park” metrolink stop is opposite the entrance to Heaton Park. From here you enter the park, walk straight down the path leading into the park, and from here you should easily navigate to the Lakeside meeting point.
How to get to Heaton Park: Bus
Heaton Park is served by the x35, 59, 90, 135, 149, 156, 164 and 484 buses. Visit www.tfgm.com/buses for more information and use the Route Explorer to plan your bus journey.
How to get to Heaton Park: Car
The Lakeside pay & display car park off Sheepfoot Lane is the closest to the meeting point, however there are other car parks should this be full. For full details of the Heaton Park pay & display car parks see: Pay and display at Heaton Park | Parking at Heaton Park | Manchester City Council
Is there a First Aider?
Yes, a First Aider will be at the Visit from the Stork gazebo for the duration of the event, and a second First Aider will be on the walk. Should you need assistance please alert one of our members of staff or volunteers, or ask another walker to get help for you. You can also ask Heaton Park staff members to direct you to either the Visit from the Stork or Heaton Park First Aiders.
What should I wear?
- Please wear appropriate footwear and comfortable clothing.
- The path is mainly tarmac apart from a gravel path around the lake. Please be mindful you will be walking for 5km so footwear such as highheels may not be appropriate.
- Please be prepared for the weather (whether sun hat and suncream, or waterproofs).
- Optional: wear bright colours!
Should I bring anything else?
This is designed to be a fun family and community event, so feel free to dress brightly, bring bubbles, bells and whistles etc as you please, to make the walk as fun as possible!
How do I buy tickets?
Easy – head over to our tickets page on Ticket Tailor to purchase them. Adults are £10 and include up to 3 children – you can add extra adults and children for £5 each. There is also an option to make an extra donation.
