Course Overview

This session will encourage learners to share their personal stories, and what their barriers to work are with the aim of breaking them down into achievable goals. The main focus here is emotional support, reflection, and empowerment.

Learners will be provided with the tools to manage their own UC claim, including personalised calculations, to see how working will affect their claim. This is an important session to ensure that learners understand their own financial situation and can see for themselves how much better off they will be working.

Looking at how to prepare a generic CV and how to tailor it to different positions. This session includes an introduction to Linkedin.

How to conduct a job search, tailoring the search to your skills and availability. Looking at positions available in different industries, flexible working, volunteering and self-employment. Also, looking at different types of  job applications and learners can role play or apply for real.

Learners will have the opportunity to meet with organisations such as Mustard Tree, Healthy Me Healthy Communities, The Princes Trust, MACC, and Smart Works (these may change) to see what opportunities are available. Learners will also complete the final part of their individual learning plan with goals and aspirations for the future.
